Now we are riding in style!

Well yes and no.... We did what I have been dreaming of for a while - we traded in our old run down minivan for a new one.

OK, I admit this has not been what I have been dreaming in all of my life. In fact, our first minivan was purchased after my husband wore me down when I was sick. He had been looking at them for a while and I kept resisting his suggestions to purchase what I considered pinnacle of getting old and boring. (Of course he did not want to drive it either.... He just wanted us to have one). Like I said though, he waited until I was sick and next thing I knew I was the proud owner of a minivan. and old. and boring.

After I started feeling better I resented being stuck with the minivan. When I first started driving it I HATED it but After 1 - 2 mos I actually started to like it. I may not have admitted that I liked it but I did. It was easier to see over smaller cars in front of me in gridlock traffic, my kids were safer, I felt tall for once in my life (I am barely 5" 2""). Also, shortly after our first minivan I found out I was pregnant with our third child so I realized that a minivan was inevitable.

Through the years we have LIVED out of our minivan. We have traveled up and down the east coast. I went back and forth to work, and ventured to the Dr.s office, grocery store, gymnastics, and McDs. I was even the GS cookie mom one year and filled my van top to bottom with cookies. I spilled coffee on the floor (more than once). We would find stray petrified fast food fries under the seat, along with hair ties, pet shop toys, candy wrappers and yugioh cards. Once I even found a petrifried frog. (That was pretty sad. and pretty gross.) I started to want a new, clean, nice smelling minivan.

After our van was paid for we had a good 12 months of no car payments and no problems. Then the problems started. -> The AC went out. -> The brakes needed to be replaced -> The wiper blades stopped working. Every month it was something else. It got to the point that we were paying as much in repairs as we would be paying in a monthly car payment.

So again my husband talked me into a new van. This time though I think he is the one that wants to drive it. It has so many nifty gadgets and features. I LOVE it. We actually have agreed that whomever has the kids takes the minivan and whomever is going to work takes our family car. I know that in another 7 years we will be looking at getting a new car but may no longer have the need for a minivan.

Never thought that would make me nostalgic but it does. How quickly my kids are growing....

Swine Flu - wait and see

I am a worrier. I tend to panic about things I have no control of. So much so that I pretty much stopped reading and watching the news about 2 years ago. Despite this the Swine Flu possible pandemic scare has caught my attention. If you read about the Spanish Flu of 1918 you realize how devastating the swine flu could be if it develops into a pandemic.

In addition to reading the normal news channels, blogs are a good source of information. Do a simple blog search or twitter search on "Swine Flu" and you can see what I am talking about.

I have been keeping up with the new cases - locations, numbers of newly diagnosed, number of deaths, etc. I have also read that people are being extradited out of the US. I have read that people in Mexico are claiming the death rate is much higher than is being reported. It is somewhat difficult to determine the truth from fiction. My guess is that it is somewhere in between. I do hope that the government and media provide us with accurate information. I have opted to follow the CDC on twitter @CDCemergency for what I am assuming is timely and useful information.

Prayers to all of those who are personally touched by this disease.

The Fresh Air Fund

The Fresh Air fund is an independent, not-for-profit organization. Their goal is to provide low income, inner city children with free outdoor summer experiences. The Fresh Air fund has helped more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877.

The Fresh Air program helps close to 10,000 New York City children annually. Last year close to 5,000 children visited volunteer host families in suburbs and in the NE of the US and Canada. In addition, 3,000 children attended five Fresh Air camps on a 2,300-acre site in Fishkill, New York. 2,000 additional young people are assisted each year through year round programs.

See the camp video below!

Fresh Air kids are
boys and girls, six to 18 years old, who live in New York City. Kids who are on first-time visits typically stay with host families for either one or two weeks. Kids who are re-invited by the same family may continue with The Fund through age 18, and can extend their trips annually. By hosting a child, you are opening the to world of new experiences and new possibilities. Think of how a small investment of your time can make a lifelong impact on someone else's life. "A visit to the home of a warm and loving volunteer host family can make all the difference in the world to an inner-city child". If you wish to donate, find out more or possibly host a child please visit the Fresh Air fund to find out more.

Review and Giveaway - eyebuydirect.com

I have been in denial. I had 20/20 vision for years and loved to brag about it. Approaching the big 4-0 I have slowly realized that those bragging rights have faded away with my ability to see things clearly that are more than 5 feet in front of me. As I have reached this
conclusion I have also debated between whether I would wear glasses or contacts. Because I have sensitive eyes, I've opted for eye glasses. I can always do both later on but for now I am looking forward to the prospect of wearing glasses and being able to see.

A couple of weeks ago eyebuydirect.com contacted me and asked if I would be willing to do a review and giveaway. Perfect timing, right? I eagerly agreed. Today I had my eye exam and did two things - 1) I purchased a pair of eye glasses at the Dr.'s office and 2) I purchased a pair of eyeglasses at eyebuydirect.com. The frames were very similar in shape and size - the ones I selected at my Optomotrist's office were a deep red/ burgundy and the ones I purchased from eyebuydirect were blue but also were Photochromic (Light-adjusting).

Because I have really good insurance through my employer I was able to purchase the ones through my Doctor for a little over $100. I paid the exact same amount from eyebuydirect.com (I opted for thinner lenses, UV coating in addition to the light adjusting). If I did NOT have good insurance, the glasses at my Optometrist would have cost $350. My insurance is good for one pair of frames though, so if I wanted an additional pair I would have had to pay the difference out of pocket. For a fraction of the cost I was able to select a second pair of glasses from eyebuydirect.com. These are the frames I selected from the Women's Glasses section at eyebuydirect.com:

Eyebuydirect.com is an excellent solution to consider when you are insured but need an extra pair of glasses or sunglasses OR when you are uninsured / under insured and need a primary pair of glasses.

Eyebuydirect.com is the #1 online eyeglass shop online. Click to read about their Promise and note the following:

- They offer a wide variety of frames for men and women.

- The base cost for frames starts at $7.95 for base frames to $99.95 for designer frames. Most frames are between $34.95 - $49.95. Because eyebuydirect.com does not have retail overhead, they can offer you
and check out the following: high quality frames for a fraction of the cost!

- Eyebuydirect.com offers single lens prescriptions, bifocals and reading glasses in addition to fashion glasses (no prescription) and sunglasses.

- All frames come with a free basic frames, a free case, free cloth and free scratch resistant finish. In addition you can also opt to purchase Anti-Reflective coating, UV coating, Color Tint and/or Photochromic (Light-adjusting).

- They offer an interactive feature called "the Wall of Frame" where you can upload your photo and try on frames (EyeTry), before selecting. This will work if you have a normal size headshot to upload.

- In addition to Visa and Mastercard, Eyebuydirect.com also accepts paypal and google checkout!

The process of ordering was so easy and I look forward to purchasing an inexpensive pair of glasses as a backup. I cannot wait to receive my frames and will post photos when I do. I simply selected my frames, input my prescription details, selected the finish on the lenses and ordered. Easy peasy.

Now for the details. Eyebuydirect.com has offered a free pair of
prescription eye glasses (with the exception of designer frames and sunglasses) in the form of a $100 voucher. With the grace of Bella Swan...

Today I had a Dr. appt early in the morning. I had to undergo a few minor tests. After a few minutes of passing most of these the Dr. said "OK, now we are going to check your balance!". I immediately confessed that I am clumsy and uncoordinated. I don't think he really believed me until he saw this with his own eyes. He asked me to close my eyes and stand up straight - easy right? I quickly started wobbling and he had to grab me so I would not fall. sigh. He had a little laugh about how I wasn't joking and we tried again but this time he was prepared to catch me. He then asked if my balance problems were recent and I replied that No, I have pretty much been this way my entire life. Enough so to earn nicknames like "Grace" and "Oops". Later when I relayed all of this to my husband he cracked up laughing because he knows first hand how accident prone I am.

Miss C. drove me NUTS all day on Saturday. I should have figured out why *that time of the month*. When I walked in the door Friday evening she started complaining that she was bored and that we never do anything on trackout. SHE JUST HAD HER LAST DAY OF SCHOOL ON FRIDAY. ugh.... She had not even been out of school for 2.5 hours. This continued all day Saturday. Ryan was working this weekend and Miss E. was very sick so we really could not go anywhere. Miss C. kept it up all day until I noticed that she was posting on Facebook how we never do anything, she is bored and we are the lamest parents ever. So I did what any good parent would do - I grounded her immediately. And publicly (on Facebook). I don't think she will be doing that again.

After I was finished I ran and had some labs taken. We quickly ran home so I could work for a few hours. The girls are tracked out of school so I took half a day. In the afternoon Miss C. also had a Dr.'s appt so the little girls were trying to entertain themselves. They decided to play "mermaid". They took blankets and elastic pony tail holders to make their tails. It was pretty hysterical. Miss E. apparently was getting hot so she took off her shirt and pretended to be a Merman. They looked just so darn adorable. Of course later that afternoon they were arguing and screaming. That was not so adorable.

Tonight I am catching up with giveaways and drops. I hope to have my new giveaways posted soon. One should be posted by Thursday.

feeds, giveaways, drops and more

Work has started to get very hectic and home is always hectic so I am not blogging as much as I would like. I need to get caught up on a few things.

- I will be posting 2 giveaways very shortly (hopefully next week).

- I am migrating my blog subscriptions from email to google reader via feed. The emails are just too much to keep up with anymore. I love google reader because you can click on the blog you want to read OR you can search all of your blogs by keyword. There are several other features I have not played around with yet but it is a much better way of managing this.

- I am behind on Entrecard dropping (which I love because I get to check out more blogs) and hope to get caught up this weekend on both drops and advertising.

- Miss E. and Miss C. have been sick. Miss C. is recovering and Miss E. had a reoccurance. Hoping it is not strep again. Track out is around the corner so the girls will be off school for a few weeks (we are on year round). Ryan is taking a couple of weeks off from work to help watch them. We were planning to go to NY but because of my increased workload at work and some personal issues we may not be able to make it as planned. He will still keep them entertained and my parents may come down here instead.

Ryan is also excited because he will be heading up a martial arts programs at one of the local schools. Right now we are watching Hell's Kitchen. It inspired me to eat - I made a small salad during the commercial - I used organic greens, crumbled goat cheese, blackberries, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Now I am full, relaxed and ready for bed.

Easter Breakfast

Miss E (6) and I woke up late. Miss N (8) and Miss C (13) had already opened their baskets. While Miss E. opened hers, I devoured some of Miss N.'s yellow chick Peeps. Not really a nutritious breakfast but certainly one that I don't have very often.

Miss C. is not feeling well with a cold and is back upstairs in her room. The little girls are now sharing a Reese's chocolate chocolate bunny and I have cut them off from eating any more candy. (but I don't think they are listening!)

Should be a nice relaxing day.

Jewelry - great resource!

Do you love jewelry like I do? I have quite a collection of jewelry. Although I am a beader, and do have some handmade pieces that I have made myself (and love), I also love my silver and gold pieces. I used to wear yellow gold and have over the last 3 years made the switch to sterling silver and/or white gold.

My favorite pieces are my new wedding ring (a band my husband and I purchased) with my mother's diamond and a pave set round pendant and earring set my husband surprised me with 1 year ago. Both are very "vintagesque". Although I love jewelry, I do not always love the price. The first thing I always ask my husband when he buys me something is "how much did this cost?. Kind of kills the gift giving spirit.

I was thrilled to find my jewlerybox.com. This website has a wide array of jewelry. Besides having a huge selection of AFFORDABLE jewelry, the site is very easy to navigate. You can search by the following:

- Type of Jewelry:

Engagement & Wedding
Rings
Pendants
Earrings
Bracelets
Necklaces
Gift it

- Popular Searches

- My Jewelry Box Hot Picks!

- Price Range

You can also view by featured collections. One of the things I loved is that when searching, the site pulled up recommendations of similar merchandise.

Below are some of my favorites!

Earrings!

Blue and White Diamond Earrings:

These 14K white gold and blue diamond earrings are stunning! I love the graduated white diamonds on the side and the floral setting for the montana blue diamonds.

Promise Rings

Tanzanite Gemstone Ring:

When we were first married husband purchased a cute pear shaped Tanzanite ring for me. I now have a teenager. She borrowed the ring and guess what? Yes, the ring has dissapeared. Now this happened a while back so I have gotten over it (finally). That said, wouldn't this 14K white gold Tanzanite Gemstone Ring With Diamonds be a PERFECT replacement?

Diamond Rings

Diamond Engagement Ring:

I love this ring - it is simple, elegant and timeless (and currently on sale!).

Yesterday we were out of town at Ms. C.'s final gymnastics competition - state finals. She was nervous and it was her poorest competition ever - I felt so bad for her. We did celebrate the end of season afterward though (and overall a good season for her). She wanted to go to IHOP so we stopped there on the way home and all ate WAY too much food. This is her last year competing which will be a really great thing for her. She feels too much pressure competing, especially from my husband(who is very competitive). Now she can still have fun, be active, etc. She can always go back later if she is ready but for now she can just have fun and re-build her confidence.

We got home yesterday and were all exhausted. Cleaned a little bit today and yesterday. We also watched a couple of movies. The girls played school, dress-up, etc.

Today I went into Miss E.'s room to put some clothes away. As I sat on her bed I noticed the entire side of the dresser was COVERED with stickers. I spent a good 15 minutes getting the stickers off, salvaging the ones I could and putting in a sticker book. I called her up to help me and explained that stickers were for paper or a sticker book, NOT furniture.

I was SO thankful the stickers peeled right off with minimal scraping.....Ah, kids.

Off to make dinner.
