As I am a self professed bath and body addict, I was thrilled when magicsenses.com contacted me and asked if I could do a giveaway and review. magicsenses.com is a family owned business offering a wide variety of scented, designer glycerin soaps. They currently carry over 55 shapes and designs. You are unique. Shouldn't your soap be unique too?

I was sent a beautiful soap from the Cheerful Butterfly Collection. This glycerin soap is not only gorgeous, it is wonderfully scented. Before I even unwrapped the soap, I could smell the fresh, floral scent.

This is now proudly displayed in my kitchen. My girls love it and have taken a renewed interest in washing their hands (which is always a good thing). Although they KNOW they need to wash their hands, I constantly find my self asking "Did you wash your hands?". No more! Now I do not even have to ask....

So you think you can dance - the potty version

Potty training no fun? I know it wasn't for us and we went through it 3 times. Well Pull-ups is trying to make potty training more fun for kids AND parents and have partnered with m80 to get the word out.

Stop by their site to take a look at the hip video "Potty Dance". It is pretty hysterical. A bunch of dancing kiddos, moms and dads get down to the hip "Potty Dance" rap. With the catchy tune, underlying humor and dance moves kids can relate to, it is a must-see for any parents and kids going through the potty training routine.

The Hokey-Pokey inspired commercial and is supposed to get kids and their parents excited about Potty Season. It’s a fun teaching tool that creates fun family time and gets toddlers excited about using the potty on their own. So You Think You Can Dance is one of my favorite shows so I could I NOT love So You Think You Can Potty Dance

Don't believe me? Watch below!

Blogs of the Month - Veggie Mom!

In honor of "friendship Month", I am featuring bloggers that have developed enduring friendships through blogging.

For our first Featured Blog, please welcome the one and only Veggie Mom! Veggie Mom from Eat Your Veggies was one of the first visitors to my blog. You can feel her energy in her writing, which is quite an accomplishment. I can only imagine how spunky she is in person.

From what I have seen, she is devoted to her friends and family, to promoting Pop'rs and to living life to it's fullest. Find out a little more about this fun and fabulous lady below:

Tell us a little about yourself, your family, etc......

Well, there are 10 members of the “extended” Pop’rs Family. First off, there’s Uncle Lynn, my BIL, the creator of the incredibly good-for-you, wonderfully fun Pop’rs…the whole reason I’m online, urging everyone to Eat Your Veggies! Uncle Lynn is married to Aunt Julie, whose bailiwick is yummy food, homemade quilts, family photos, gardening, and, of course the dogs, Moses and Rowdy. Aunt Julie is also my hubby Moker’s Little Sis. Uncle Lynn and Aunt Julie have four boys: Big Bear, Shark Boy, College Boy and Soccer Boy. On my side of the family, there’s me, Veggie Mom, who’s married to Moker, Aunt Julie’s Big Brother. We have two girls: College Girl and The Wild One.

Besides blogging, what are some of your hobbies?

Let’s see…I love to read, garden, go for long walks…I’m a fairly decent cook, and a pretty good writer, so I’d include those in my interests, too. But as far as being crafty? That’s Aunt Julie’s side of the family! Except for coaxing day lilies out of the soil every spring, I’m just not that handy!

How did you get started blogging?

Well, Uncle Lynn wanted to get the word out this new seasoning he developed at his plant in Northeastern Wisconsin. He thought it would be fun to blog about Pop’rs, and asked me what I thought about the idea. Several of my friends have started blogs, so I naturally was pretty enthusiastic. On June 16th of last year I finally got my feet wet! It took me a while to find Veggie Mom’s “voice,” but the rest, as they say, is history!

What do you like best about blogging?

I consider Eat Your Veggies! to be a forum not just for Pop’rs and the Pop’rs Family, but for my visitors as well. I love sharing my everyday thoughts and dreams. Plus, as a blogger I have a built-in “sounding board” in the blogging community. I love the freedom that the Internet brings. I can be sitting here in my dusty basement, and communicate with others halfway around the world! I also enjoy meeting new friends and making common connections. And I get a lot of encouragement and advice, which is nice!

You have such a strong network of online friends. Which bloggers have you created an especially strong bond with?

I’m close with several blogging buddies. Susie, from Susie’s Homemade is one of my faves…she and her wonderful husband, Jeff, just redesigned my blog, which is awesome! I also have a strong affinity for Karla at Zander and Me, and The Lovely Mannequin, at Fractured Toy. Mannequin’s friends, Frankie and Cupid, are the best…plus they’re featured in my new redesign as well. Check out the Polaroid in the upper left-hand corner that’s labeled “Pop’rs Pals”!

Do you share any common threads with your fellow blogging friends?

We all love sharing stories about friends, family, work and food. Especially food! And every time Uncle Lynn hosts a Great New Pop’rs Giveaway, I seem to make even more bloggy buds. Wonder why that is?

Any fun vacation plans in 2009?

The Pop’rs Family vacations every summer at North Carolina’s Outer Banks. We’ve been going there for years, and consider this lovely strip of sand more of a sanctuary than a vacation spot. Last year we were able to get all 10 of us there at once, which was a very special treat! Other than our annual beach getaway, though, I’ve been saving my sheckels…with two kids in college, I can’t afford a fancy vay-cay right now!

Tea Time

Today I entered Miss E.'s bedroom and discovered there was a tea party I was not invited to. There were 3 kiddie chairs, 1 stool and 1 doll highchair pulled up to the little table in her room. A large stuffed frog, plush pink bear, and various small stuffed animals were partaking in the festivities. The table was decorated with scrapbooking and oragami papers, colorful IKEA kids flatware and various plastic toys.

The evidence suggested that she did not act alone - Miss N.'s yellow stool, fluffy turquoise pillow and Bella Sara cards were amoungst the other items. I cleaned up most of the mess but moved the table back to it's proper spot, still covered in the paper and various forks and spoons.

I wish my dinner table looked so festive. Looks like I missed out on a great time!  I wish I had a picture but since I don't I added one of the girls having fun in the snow a couple of weeks back.

SIKULU & HARAMBE

Sikulu and Harambe By the Zambezi River written by Kunle Oguneye with illustrations by Bruce McCorkindale is a wonderful story for small children. It is An African version of the Good Samaritan Story and is a Best Books Award Finalist from USA Book News.

Sikulu, a spider, and Harambe, a Hippo are close friends. One day they are playing by the river when an older woman slips, falls and loses her laundry in the river. She is too weak to swim after the clothes and frantically searches for help. She finds resistance from many of the river inhabitants when she asks for assistance.
- The fish are going in the opposite direction and do not want to turn around.
- The stork was too busy looking for lunch to assist.
- It was not bath day for the Elephant and he did not want to get wet.

Sikulu and Harambe agree to help, and although Sikulu is scared, with Harambe's help he has the courage to help.  Together Sikulu and Harambe struggle to successfully save the woman's laundry.  After they bring all of the clothing ashore, she is so relieved, she rewards them with worthy gifts - gold and emerald bracelets for Sikulu and a fine cloth for Harambe.

later at the village festival the other creatures were are first jealous of Sikulu's and Harambe's treasures.  When the other creatures discover WHY the treasures were given, they are embarassed for their unwillingness to help someone in need and promise to be more considerate next time someone needs their assistance.

At the end of the book is a Q and A section, glossary and dictionary.  My kids really enjoyed this book - what they loved most was the colorful pictures which were outlined in black and finely shaded in with colored pencil.   As a parent, I loved the message of helping and caring,  the opportunity to learn about a different culture and the educational section in the back for reference.

You can read the book online at http://www.sikulu.com/sikulu_book.php.  If you are interested in purchasing the book for your caring kiddo, you can find out more here.

the new normal

It has been a while since I have written so this is a lengthy one......Life has been so hectic lately - over the holidays we hosted my parents for Christmas, and later my in laws for New Years. A little over a week ago my brother, his wife and their girls visited. From Christmas through the present we have had numerous gymnastics competitions, 1 sleepover, 4 colds, 3 ear infections, track out from school and 2 trips.

Last weekend my husband took our oldest and youngest daughters to Myrtle Beach for a gymnastics competition and I took Miss N. to Ohio to visit my friend Susan, her husband Steve and their little boy Mr. P. Mr. P. and Miss N. are both all of 8 years old and they hit it off, although not immediately.

At first Mr. P was not too sure if he liked Miss N. When his mom asked what he thought he gave an unenthusiastic response of "she's OK". Miss N. is not a girly girl though. After chasing the dog, wrestling, competing against one another on the x-box and running from the goblins in the basement together, he thought she was A-OK. We watched Mr. P. play soccer on Saturday morning and Susan thought he was running extra hard to impress Miss. N. He also played his guitar for her - his own version of "Smoke on the Water" - Oh my~ he was pulling out all the stops to impress!. Miss N. followed him around in turn. And of course MoJo, their new Pugle, was right in the mix of things. They were pretty much the pair (and Pugle) the entire weekend. When the house would get quiet we would joke about what they were up to. When we left Mr. P, gave Miss N. a stuffed red snake with hearts all over it, a bag of candy and some sweets. Now how sweet is that?

A few other fun things from Ohio. I got to see Susan's mom, dad, sister and nephew, our other college friend Carrie, my aunt and uncle and my little cousin Julie Ann.

We had a blast with our friend Carrie on Saturday. Carrie is a Dr. but cannot figure out how to use a computer. I set her up with a personal email account and facebook. After that it was all I could do to keep her OFF of Facebook - the minute I would step out of my seat, I would find that Carrie had occupied it, looking over Facebook and figuring out how to navigate it. We took and uploaded photos, looked over profiles of old classmates and had a great time reminiscing. Hey, facebooking isn't just for kids anymore! Although the kids use it as their primary mode of communication (texting aside), I think the adults actually have more fun using it.

Sunday Susan actually talked me into going to church. I am embarassed to admit when the last time I went to church was but we all went and really enjoyed it. iu am thinking of trying to find a similar church here in Raleigh. Carrie left to travel home after church and Miss N., Susan and I headed to see my aunt and uncle. It has been several years since I lived there so I actually got lost on the way to see them. We finally made it and settled in quickly. My aunt made a wonderful lunch, followed by chocolate chip cookies, biscotti and coffee. Miss N. left with a few goodies and Susan left with a fabulous care package of food and flowers made by my aunt.

After we visited with them at their house we headed over to see my little cousin Julie Ann. Julie is in her 20's and not so little anymore but it was wonderful seeing her. She has a darling apartment filled with her artwork, fun books and wonderful, funky decor, It is also in a great section of town. When Susan and I shared an apartment it was a dump. We kept saying "why didn't WE have this apartment. Miss N. was SO impressed that there was actually and elevator IN Julie's apartment and went on a small excursion up and down a flight with my Aunt Donna. Miss N. says that Julie Ann is her COOLEST cousin. My uncle took pictures and we just had a great time. We got home, rested a bit and then took the kiddos to see Coraline in 3-D. It was typical Tim Burton - grotesque, frightening and fun.

Miss N. was a darling, sweet child the entire weekend. Susan kept saying "she is so sweet!". And she was. I could not believe how well behaved Miss N. was the entire weekend - not one incident of whining, yelling, fighting, etc. (Of course it helped that her sisters were not there). Like clockwork, after being dropped off at the airport on Monday, the good behavior abruptly ended. She started whining and acting up IMMEDIATELY as Susan and Mr. P. pulled away. I think she misses Mr. P. and realized it would be a while before she say him. I'll just pretend that she is that well behaved always.....

I ordered groceries in OH (love Internet shopping) but was not paying attention and did not order from our normal grocery store. My husband picked me up from the airport at 4:15 pm yesterday. On the way back from the airport we had stopped to pick the groceries up and when they did not have our order I realized I ordered from the wrong store. We had to go to the house, check my email and figure out where to pick them up - we also unloaded the car and went through the mail At this point it was around 5:30 pm. I found the right store, my husband mapped it out on his GPS . I packed the two little ones into the car to go pick up the food so we would have something to eat in the house and he got ready for work. After I picked up the groceries I stopped to get gas. After that I stopped to pick up Miss. C for gymnastics. When we finally got home (around 7:00pm) I had to unpack the groceries, unload the dishwasher, start the laundry (we had at least 4 loads), sweep, mop, vacuum and make dinner. By the time I was finished it was close to 10:00pm. I know - exciting, right?

I keep waiting for life to go back to "normal", whatever that is. As the girls get older our lives seem to get busier. I love watching the girls as they get bigger but wonder where the time goes. I am hoping to see Susan, Steve and Parker when they visit DC in a couple of months. We also have plans for a few more gymnastics competitions, Vegas, the Finger Lakes and Seattle so we will see...

No ideas for valentine's day?

Valentine's Day is a day that we express our love for each other. How can you truly show someone you care. The nonprofit group LIFE foundation is asking you to consider a unique and thoughtful gift for Valentine's Day by investing in Life insurance for your loved ones. What better way to show you care than to ensure security and financial stability for your family?
I am very fortunate to have life insurance.  I have peace of mind knowing that the security of my family is intace.
Below are some topline results from the LIFE Foundation Valentine’s Day survey:
  • Seven out of ten Americans (70%) would forego celebrating Valentine’s Day this year in exchange for financial peace of mind.
  • Nearly half (44%) of those surveyed would rather receive practical gifts this Valentine’s Day, such as money towards bills or gas, as opposed to more traditional gifts.
  • Forty-two percent of those Americans who received a Valentine’s Day gift last year don’t think their gift was memorable and nearly half (48%) lamented that it lasted a month or less!  The proceeds of a policy, however, could benefit loved ones long after the chocolates have been eaten and the flowers have wilted.
To encourage people to consider a gift that is truly selfless and loving, LIFE is sponsoring an online Valentine’s Day contest during the weeks leading up to February 14. Anyone over age 18 is invited to nominate a close friend or family member who has exhibited selfless love for a chance to win a variety of prizes, including $2k towards the Cartier Love Collection! Your entry doesn’t have to be insurance-related, it can be about anything! You can find out more at http://www.insureyourlove.org.

My brother, his wife and my nieces are in visiting today.  Hope to post a picture later today.  The kids are having a blast and it is so much fun having a baby in the house again.  I LOVE babies and would love another one but the thing is, they don't STAY babies.

The baby is darling - she is very calm, introspective and observant.  She will sit and stare at you with this "look" - you are left wondering "what did I do wrong"?  Very cute and funny.  I scared her when I first met her, then won her over for a bit until I tried to teach her to crawl.  After the crawl training session she wanted nothing to do with me again until later this morning when I bribed her with a basket of Care Bears.

My brother and his wife are marveling over the balmy weather we are having.  Having grown up in upstate NY, off Lake Ontario where below freezing temps are a October - April occurance, you get used to the bitter cold.  It has been several years since I have lived in NY and have gotten used to the mild winters and HOT summers.  It is a treat for them to see what a NC winter is like -- I know I take it for granted.  NC winters are unpredictable - yes it is in the 70's today but it snowed last week, but at least we do get those beautiful days in here and there.

Off to the mall shortly if I can get my act together.

Be back later!
