Butterflies are intriguing - the most enchanting and captivating of all in the insect family, Harold Feinstein gives us One Hundred Butterflies, a beautiful book, honoring these fantastic creatures. Feinstein, a renowned photographer is known for capturing striking images on film. Besides Feinstein's fantastic pictures, there are hidden gems in the book: a poem about butterflies by the author of the book, a snippet of information taken from a vintage natural history book, quotes and an essay.
This book would be appreciated by those with an affection for butterflies (an old co-worker comes to mind), those who love art, and those who love nature. This is not limited to adults either. My daughters loved this book. They carefully leafed through the pages, commenting on the colors and features of each butterfly and selecting their personal favorites from around the world. Most of our favorites were Asian.
I remember as a child my fascination with butterflies. I love watching the same enthrallment in my own children and sharing with them an appreciation of and fascination with the beauty and mystique of the butterfly. The butterflies featured in this book are no exception. Feinstein shares with us magnificent, delicate, colorful, BOLD, and fanciful specimens.
For a memorable gift, consider Feinstein's One Hundred Butterflies; it currently retails for $50 USD but can be found on sale from several retailers.
